WICHITA, Kan. – The Allen Americans defeated the Wichita Thunder for the second night in a row to improve to 6-0 against Wichita this season, in front of 6,062 at Intrust Bank Arena.
The Americans jumped on the board first tonight with Casey Pierro-Zabotel scoring his 10th of the season from Aaron Gens and Dyson Stevenson, at the 6:19 mark of the opening frame. Allen took a 1-0 lead to the room despite being outshot 8-7 in the first period.
The Thunder cashed in on the Power Play in the second period on a goal from Ian Lowe, drawing even on the Americans at 1-1. The rest of the period consisted of rarely any 5-on-5 play, as a penalty box parade featured three straight Allen penalties. However, Allen goaltender, Joel Rumpel, stood strong, allowing only 1 goal on 21 total shots through 40 minutes.
Allen would break the tie in the third period on a backdoor feed with Chris Crane finishing the play. The Crane goal would be the difference maker, along with an empty net goal from Greger Hanson, giving us the final score of 3-1.
The Allen Americans return home tomorrow, Sunday, January 24th, wrapping up the weekend series against the Wichita Thunder, with a 4:05 pm puck drop.
