Allen, TEXAS – It was do or die time for the Allen Americans in game six against the Idaho Steelheads on Tuesday night at the Allen Event Center on a very storm night for north Texas. The Americans weren’t yet ready to grab their sticks and hitting the links, preferring to keep the drive to defend their Kelly Cup Championship alive for one more day.
Idaho got the all-important first goal of the game when Tommy Fallen lit the lamp at 12:57 of the first period, it was a key goal because the team who scores first has won every game between these two clubs going back through the regular season. With a determination to change this, the Americans bounced back to tie it less than 90 seconds later on a goal by Tristan King that was setup by the great hustle of JP LaFontaine.
A power play goal by Eric Roy, just 33 seconds into the frame set the tone for a huge period by the Americans, who notched three more unanswered goals to extend their lead to 4-1 by the second intermission. Rounding out the scoring for Allen was Matt Register and another power play goal, this time by Greger Hanson. Allen went 2 for 3 on the power play while blanking the Steelheads on their three times with the man advantage.
The Steelheads cut the lead in half at 6:08 when Rob Linsmayer fired one past Riley Gill in the Americans net but that was all that Gill would allow past him through the remainder of regulation where the Americans held on for the 4-2 win.
The seventh and deciding game is set for Wednesday evening at the Allen Event Center with a scheduled puck drop of 7:05PM
