Americans fall to Oilers in defensive battle

ALLEN, TX – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Tulsa Oilerson Monday afternoon on Marvel Comics Day in Allen.

In a tight game throughout, Tulsa squeak out a one-goal victory on Monday afternoon, as Kale Kessy scored shorthanded at 15:27 of the final frame to put the Oilers ahead for good. The Americans pulled Stephon Williams with 90 seconds left in regulation, but were unable to get the equalizer, as Tulsa takes two of three against the Americans this weekend.

Bryan Moore scored the only Americans goal on the power play at 13:03 of the second frame, assisted by Eric Roy and Joel Chouinard. It was his team-leading 13th goal of the season.

Both goaltenders were solid. Stephon Williams stopped 38 of 40 shots, while former Americans netminder Jake Hildebrand stopped 33 0f 34 shots for Tulsa.

“We played hard this afternoon, but couldn’t bury our chances,” Americans Captain Joel Chouinard said. “Willy (Stephon Williams) played great for us in two straight games and deserved the win today.”

The Americans went 1-for-7 on the power play while the Oilers were 0-for-4. Tulsa outshot the Americans for the game 40 to 34.

Allen returns to action this Friday night against the Indy Fuel, in the first of the three-game Indiana road trip. The club will play in Fort Wayne on Saturday and Sunday.

The next Americans home game is on January 24th against the Rapid City Rush.
