Americans end losing skid, end Wichita’s winning streak at six

WICHITA, Kan. – The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, beat the Wichita Thunder on Friday night 5-3 at Intrust Bank Arena in front of 5,394 fans.

Joel Chouinard and Jonathan Lessard scored in the opening period for Allen. Chouinard, on the power play, his second of the year from Peter MacArthur and David Makowski at the 3:10 mark. Lessard, scored his 4th of the season unassisted at 15:57. Allen held the advantage in shots on goal after the first period 12-8.

Wichita scored the only goal in the second frame on the fourth of the year from Zach O’Brien from Dyson Stevenson and Kyle Platzer even strength. Shots on goal after 40 minutes of play; Allen 28 Wichita 17.

The Americans scored three times in the final period. Alex Schoenborn fired home his second of the season from the slot at 2:49 of the third period. Then Vincent Arseneau scored his first of the year to give Allen a 4-3 lead. Arseneau’s goal turned out to be the game winner for Allen. Then Jonathan Lessard netted his second of the game and fifth of the year to seal the win for the Americans, ending their five game losing streak. The Americans outshot Wichita 43 to 34 for the game. Americans rookie goalie Jeremy Brodeur picked up his first professional victory.

The Americans are back at it tomorrow night at 7:05 PM against Wichita.
