Amercans fall to Mavericks 4-1

INDEPENDENCE, MO – The Allen Americans fell to the Kansas City Mavericks on Monday night by a score of 4-1 to split the weekend series against them.

In a first period that was dominated by the goalies, the Americans looked to use their speed and stamina to their advantage against a short Mavericks bench. The shots were 18-11 at the end of the first, but remained scoreless largely due to multiple nice saves made by Jeremy Brodeur.

In the second, the Americans fell into some penalty trouble. It wasn’t until there was 6:10 left in the second period that the Mavericks opened up the scoring in the game with a power play goal by Mike McMurtry. Five minutes later, McMurtry scored another power play goal making the game 2-0.

The Mavericks scored first again in the third period, jumping out to a 3-0 lead on a power play goal by Mark Cooper. It wasn’t until six minutes were left in the third that the Americans were able to get on the board with a goal scored by Vincent Arseneau. The Mavericks answered back with an even-strength goal by Cooper to make the score 4-1 and that is how the game concluded.

The Americans are in Tulsa on December 16th for a face-off against the Tulsa Oilers.

The Americans return home for games on December 19th and 20th for another pair against the Kansas City Mavericks.
