LOVELAND, Colo. – Game four of the Western Division finals saw the teams combine for 121 minutes in penalties on 28 separate infractions with only one two minute penalty occurring in the first period.
After Julien Nantal scored the first goal of the game the Colorado Eagles cruised through the first period playing their usual skill game and with the help of Lukas Hafner keeping the Americans off the scoreboard.
In the second period, sensing their season and continuing playoff dominance coming to an
end, the Allen Americans pulled out all the stops and forced an extremely physical brand of hockey in order to keep from suffering a series sweep.
With two special teams goals, one on the power play from Chad Costello and a shorthanded tally from Tyler Barnes, the Americans took a 2 to 1 lead in the middle frame.
A total of nine penalties in the second period was eclipsed by seven minors, three fighting majors, and seven misconduct calls including a Game Misconduct to Mason Geertson in the third period.
It was about as ugly a game as Colorado has played this season and the two third period goals from Allen’s Krushelnyski and Brittain added to the frustration of the Eagles as they lost the game by a final score of 4 to 1.
Lukas Hafner stopped 21 of 25 shots in his first playoff loss.
Riley Gill faced only 18 shots from the Eagles, 17 of wich he stopped in his first win of this series.
Game 5 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Co. will be on Sunday May 7th.
Start time is 3:05 P.M.
