Allen, Canadiens shut out Chicago, 4-0 Blackhawks look uninspired in another loss

IN What is starting to feel like a “who cares” end of the season, the Chicago Blackhawks were shutout in Montreal, 4-0, by the Canadiens on Tuesday night.Jake Allen made 22 saves in the win for the Canadiens.

“[Shutouts are] hard to get in this league, and obviously the last two years have been a little harder on us,” Montreal defenseman David Savard said. “And to get one for Jake, he’s been playing really well for us, and he deserves it.”

The Canadiens moved to 23-27-4.

Montreal took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a marker from Justin Barron, Allen protected the advantage until the third period when the Habs posted three goals.

The Blackhawks dropped to 16-31-5.

“We were really sloppy in the first period, and we just didn’t play a good solid game,” Chicago coach Luke Richardson said. “And I think they found their game before us and then it became tough. I thought we were chasing them.”

Joel Armia scored the first of the three third period goals for the Canadiens and a 2-0 lead.

“When they scored that goal, we kind of let it slip away,” Blackhawks forward Taylor Raddysh said.

Savard extended the lead to 3-0, 10:53 of the third, and Christian Dvorak added  a marker, 52 seconds later, for the 4-0 final.

Jaxson Stauber made 27 saves in the Chicago loss.

“It just felt like we were weak tonight overall and didn’t battle and gave them easier looks than they had to earn,” Chicago defenseman Connor Murphy said.
