MOLINE, Ill. – Eric Roy scored and added an assist and David Makowski kicked off a run of three unanswered Allen American goals with what proved to be the game winner as the Americans (19-13-1) defeated the host Quad City Mallards (16-14-3) 4-1 Saturday night .
With the loss the Mallards dropped out of the top spot in the ECHL’s Midwest Division and into second place, one point behind the Fort Wayne Komets
After the Mallards’ Sam Warning tied the score at one on a breakaway at 9:28 of the second period, Makowski put the Americans back on top by blasting home a power play goal from the blue line with just under two minutes left in the second.
Dyson Stevenson skated in alone to stretch the lead to 3-1 at 7:38 of the third period. J.P. LaFontaine’s empty net goal capped off the Allen victory with 1:16 remaining.
It was the Americans who had opened the scoring with Roy’s blast from the left wing circle at 16:51 of the first period.
The Mallards return to action on home ice next Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against Fort Wayne. Next Friday also brings the return of $1 Dog/$1 Beer Night presented by 97X and MetroLINK College Night.
