ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – Friday night at McMullen Arena saw the beginning of the first Commander in Chief’s hockey tournament, in a game between Navy and Air Force.
Navy’s Ian Coyne got on the board first, with an unassisted goal at 16:32. Navy put six shots on goal, while Air Force fired 14 shots on goal.
The second period saw two Ryan Reule goals, at 17:03 and 18:03, with assists from Spencer Anderson and Douglas Gutierrez, respectively. The first goal was even strength, while the second goal was scored while on the power play. Navy only put 2 shots on goal, while Air Force had 25 shots.
In the third period, Air Force continued their scoring spree at 2:08 and 4:40 with Nicholas Hastings netting both goals. Guttierez had the assist on the first, while Reule and Anderson assisted on Hastings’ second goal. Both goals came on the power play. Lucas Smith closed out the scoring for Air Force with assists from Jed Cutter and Luca Pisani. The Falcons finished with 59 shots on goal, while Navy finished with 13 shots on goal.
Skippy Sheldon of Navy was in net, while Mark Anarumo was in goal for Air Force. Air Force would go on to play Army the following day, while Navy would have to wait another day to play Army.
