Milwaukee, WI—Behind a pair of two point nights from Joakim Kemell and Ryan Ufko, the Admirals were able to flash offensively against Chicago, recording 36 shots on goal, but their attacking prowess fell just short as the surrendered a late goal in a 5-4 loss to the Wolves on Friday night at historic Panther Arena.
After a quiet first period, the two teams opened the scoring floodgates early in the second. Shawn Element got things going for the Admirals with a wraparound that he tucked inside the post to take a 1-0 lead. Chicago knotted the score at one just over two minutes later, then took the 2-1 lead after a scramble in front of the net at the midway point of the period on Nikita Pavlychev’s seventh of the year.
Milwaukee wasted no time finding a response as Kyle Marino sniped one from the left circle courtesy of a great find from Joakim Kemell, with just under nine minutes to play in the sandwich frame. Only two minutes later, the Admirals took advantage of a Chicago powerplay to take back the lead. With Ryan Ufko leading the unit from the point, he found Kemell on the left dot for his signature one-timer, which was saved, but to no avail as Daniel Carr was sitting on the doorstep to knock in the rebound making the score 3-2.
Chicago tied the game at three on a power-play goal from Noel Gunler with just under two minutes to go in the second and then grabbed the lead on a Justin Robidas goal at eight minutes of the third. However, the Admirals continued to show their fight. With just over five minutes remaining, Tanner Molendyk caught a Chicago clearing attempt out of the air, dropped it in front of him, and wound up a clapper from the slot that found the net tying the game at four. The late rally was not enough for the Admirals though, as with under thirty seconds remaining, Skyler Brind’Amour slipped one past Magnus Chrona for the game winning goal.
Milwaukee is back in action tomorrow night in Grand Rapids as they take on the Griffins at 6pm. Following the Admirals outdoor game next Friday in Hastings, MN, they will play host to the Iowa Wild next Saturday at 6pm.
