GRAND RAPIDS – The Milwaukee Admirals balanced the scale with a win in Grand Rapids on Saturday night defeating the Griffins 4-0 after having suffered a loss to them and a nine-game winning streak break on home ice in Milwaukee Friday night (3-0).
“It was a good rebound game for us” said Head Coach Dean Evason. “We liked our
start to the game, were able to get our game going early and score a power play goal.”
Colton Sissons of the Admirals wasted no time in capitalizing on the power play with a tip from Taylor Aronson to start the tally at 1:24 in the 1st frame (1-0).
Returning to the ice tonight from a dislocated left shoulder injury was Red Wings backup goalie Jonas Gustavsson who stopped 29 of 32 shots in his first game since Nov 5.
“The longer the game went on I felt better and better, and it was a good test for me” said Gustavsson.
Starting out quickly in the second Pontus Aberg would grab his 15th of the season at 2:12 (2-0). Sissons would again deflect an Aronson shot into the net to make it 3-0 with 1:32 to go in the same frame.
Gustavsson will play with the Griffins again on Wednesday in Toronto before heading to Colorado to join the Red Wings against the Colorado Avalanche.
“I thought he did a good job,” said Griffins Head Coach Jeff Blashill. “He’s had his injuries a little bit, but he’s an NHL goalie.”
The fourth goal would come from at 13:07 in the third from Admiral Ian White on an empty net. Milwaukee netminder Magnus Hellberg ranks as the eighth to shut out the Griffins twice in the same season.
