SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Rampage (0-2-0-0) fell to the Milwaukee Admirals (2-0-0-0) 2-1 in front of 3,919 at the AT&T Center on Sunday night. Despite outshooting the Admirals 30-21, the Rampage lost their second consecutive game at home. Rocco Grimaldi scored the Silver and Black’s lone goal of the night, earning him the Second Star of the Game.
The Admirals started the scoring in the ninth minute of regulation when Justin Florek sent a wrister from the top of the face-off circle and into the back of the net. San Antonio’s Spencer Martin was in position for the stop, but the puck slipped under the netminder’s stick. The remainder of the first period was quiet as the Admirals took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
San Antonio opened the second frame with a fast pace and connected on a power-play opportunity at 5:05 when Grimaldi went upstairs on Milwaukee’s Juuse Saros. The play began when A.J. Greer collected a pass from J.T. Compher and fed Grimaldi on the backside, who ultimately tied the game at one.
With the game tied heading into the third period, the Rampage made it a priority to keep the puck in the offensive zone and look for second-chance shots. They outshot Milwaukee 13-4 in the final frame, but ultimately fell to the Admirals 2-1 off an Adam Payerl goal with 7:58 remaining in regulation.
Martin and the Rampage penalty-kill unit held the Admirals scoreless on six opportunities with the man advantage, while Milwaukee limited the Rampage’s power play to 1-7. The Silver and Black’s goaltender finished the game with 19 saves on 21 total shots.
