DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (21-35-3-4, 49 points) were defeated by the Milwaukee Admirals (38-20-3-0, 79 points) 5-1 in front of 5,753 fans at the at Wells Fargo Arena on Sunday evening. The Admirals scored four power-play goals and had five different players enjoy multi-point games. Forwards Max Reinhart, Pontus Aberg, Frederick Gaudreau and defenseman Trevor Murphy each scored a power-play goal for MIlwaukee. Reinhart added an even-strength goal for the Admirals for his second of the night. Admirals goalie Marek Mazanec (17-14-3) made 27 saves on 28 shots in the
victory. Iowa goalie Steve Michalek (6-3-0) made 19 saves on 24 shots in the defeat. Forward Rob Bordson scored the lone goal in the Iowa loss. The Wild travels to Stockton on Friday, Mar. 18 for a 9:30 p.m. game against the Heat.
Admirals forward Max Reinhart opened the scoring at 11:25 of the first period, helping Milwaukee grab a 1-0 lead. Forward Max Gortz and defenseman Trevor Murphy each tailed an assist each on the power-play goal. Gortz received the puck to right of the Iowa goal from Murphy, firing a cross-crease pass to Reinhart. Standing at the back door, the puck ricocheted off Reinhart and past goalie Steve Michalek for his 18th goal of the season.
Reinhart scored his second goal of the game just 16 seconds into the second period. Forward Pontus Aberg and Frederick Gaudreau each tallied an assist on the goal. Gaudreau corralled the puck in the neutral zone, starting an odd-man advantage for the Admirals. Streaking into the offensive zone, Reinhart took a pass from Aberg and slipped the puck by a sprawling Michalek for his 19th goal of the season. Aberg added a goal of his own at 3:38 of the period, extending Milwaukee’s lead to 3-0. Defenseman Trevor Murphy and forward Kevin Fiala each tallied an assist each on the power-play goal. Aberg received a pass at the right circle from Murphy, one-timing a slapshot past Michalek for his 17th goal of the season.
Wild forward Rob Bordson scored at 2:54 of the third period, cutting the Admirals lead to 3-1. Defensemen Conor Allen and Tyson Strachan each tallied an assist on the shorthanded goal. Allen controlled the puck at left point, firing a shot towards the net. Standing in front of the net, Bordson tipped the puck out of midair, redirecting the puck through goalie Marek Mazanec’s five-hole for his ninth goal of the season. Admirals forward Frederick Gaudreau scored at 8:56 of the period, extending Milwaukee’s lead to 4-1. Center Vladislav Kamenev and defenseman Taylor Aronson each tallied an assist on the goal. Gaudreau took a rebound at the right face-off dot and one-timed the puck past Michalek for his 15th goal of the season. Defenseman Trevor Murphy scored the fourth Milwaukee power-play goal of the game at 10:23 of the period, giving the Admirals a 5-1 lead. Gortz and Aberg each earned an assist on the goal. Murphy fired a slapshot from the right point, beating Michalek under his glove for his 10th goal of the season.
