Adirondack blanks Brampton for consecutive shutouts

BRAMPTON, ON – The Adirondack Thunder kept the puck out of their own net for the second straight game as they disposed of the Brampton Beast by a 4-0 final on Thursday evening at Powerade Centre in Brampton, Ontario. The shutout marked the third time in franchise history and the second time in as many games that the Thunder have not conceded a goal.

Adirondack opened the scoring midway through the first period as Jeff Silengo continued his goal scoring form with a tally 13:43 into the first period. After a perfectly executed cycle in the offensive zone, Thunder captain Rob Bordson emerged with the puck and fed Silengo in the high slot, where the winger one-timed it past Brampton netminder Trevor Cann. The goal for Silengo extended his goal scoring streak to three games, with a goal in each game since he returned from injury last week. Bordson and Michael Kirkpatrick collected the assists, the first for Bordson since November 4 after his recall to the AHL in early November.

The away side doubled its advantage early in the second period as Silengo struck again, this on the power play, to make it 2-0 for the Thunder. Some nice puck possession led the biscuit to Adirondack defenseman David Shields at the left point, where the veteran blueliner wired a shot on net that Silengo redirected home for the goal. The finish was the fourth of the season for Silengo while Bordson collected his sixth multi-point game of the season with the secondary assist.

The Thunder made it 3-0 less than four minutes later as Bordson added to his offensive effort with a goal of his own on a redirection in the slot. Shields collected the puck at the right hand point and put a shot towards the net that Bordson got a stick on, to throw Cann off balance and extend the Adirondack lead to 3-0. The goal gave Bordson his third three-point game of the season and the helper for Shields, his second of the night, marked the second time he’s collected multiple points this season.

The power play struck again towards the end of the second period, courtesy of yet another re-direction, to make it 4-0. The defensive pairing of Patch Alber and Ryan Culkin moved the puck around the Brampton defense and Culkin fired a shot from the point, that was deflected home by Kirkpatrick for his seventh goal of the season. The power-play goal marked the sixth time this season that the Thunder have scored multiple goals with the man advantage this season.

These two teams will meet again on short rest as they will both travel back to Glens Falls to face off tomorrow evening at the Civic Center.
