LAS VEGAS, Nev – Las Vegas, NV – The Alaska Aces came out the victors in a quick four game sweep against the Las Vegas Wranglers in the National Conference Championships. Ace’s goalie Jean-Philippe Lamoureux was tremendous in the net during the series leading the Aces to a 5-1 win in the final game tonight.
The Aces came out and demonstrated their desire to put this game away as they pummeled the Wranglers. It all began in the first period with Alaska goals by Lance Galbraith and Matt Stefanishion put the Aces up 2-0 late in the period. Stefanishion’s power play goal snuck past Glenn Fisher assisted by Matt Shasby.
Colin Hemingway scored his seventh goal of the post-season early into the second period, assisted by Cam Keith and Josh Soares. Then at 11:10, a power play goal by Luke Erickson, put the Aces up 4-0 at the end of the second period.
Las Vegas showed signs of struggle tonight, and just could not shoot the puck at the goal as often as they did in earlier series, almost seeming physically worn out. They trailed in shots on goal 24-19 by the end of the second period.
In the third period, the Wranglers Mike Hamilton scores a short handed goal against Lamoureux with an assist by Hugo Carpentier, at 3:54 into the period to try to close the gap. But the Aces would answer back at 5:55 on a power play goal by Alexandre Imbeault, putting the Aces up 5-1.
Alaska has finished the series with a 12-2 post season record so far on their way to the Kelly Cup Championship series. Aces will play the winner of the South Carolina Stingrays and the Cincinnati Cyclones. The Stingrays are leading that series 3-0, with game four tomorrow night.
