ANCHORAGE, AK – The Aces continued their drive for the championship by defeating the Las Vegas Wranglers before 4,595 fans at the Sullivan Arena 4-1. With the win Alaska now leads the series two games to none.
The first period started very similar to Game 1, with a power play goal by Lance Galbraith, on a rebound off of Glenn Fisher at 2:53 into the period. The goal was assisted by Alexandre Imbeault and Bryan Miller.
Then at 10:44 the Aces scored off a face-off in Wranglers territory. Alaska’s Luke Erickson won the drop and hit the puck toward the net where it hit Fisher’s glove then bounced just across the line to put the Aces up 2-0. The Aces continued to outshoot the Wranglers 12-6 in the first period maintaining their momentum from game one.
The Wranglers were still struggling in the second period as Imbeault scored at 12:13 into the period, putting the Aces up 3-0 and assists on the shot went to Erickson and Galbraith. This goal would mark the end of the game for Fisher, and he left with 16 saves. The Wranglers John DeCaro finished the period in the net, in an attempt to change the momentum of the game.
In the third period, Vladimir Novak scored a goal for the Aces, putting them up 4-1, with an assist to Scott Burt. The Wranglers only goal came at 12:55 from a feed by Chris Neisner to Dan Spang. It would not be enough to close in on the Aces this time. Spang’s short-handed shot made it past Jean-Philippe Lamoureux, and eliminated the possibility of a second shut-out for the ECHL’s Goaltender of the Year.
Lamoureux made 23 saves in the win to increase the Aces home undefeated streak to 12 games. DeCaro finished the game with 5 saves in relief.
