The Marlies battled from behind in Rochester tonight to pick up their 7th straight victory and improve to 14-2-2-1 on the season.
Rochester’s Brett Murray opened the scoring at 13:24 of the first period to tilt the ice in the home team’s favour early on. The Marlies put 8 shots on goal in the opening frame but couldn’t find the back of the net and found themselves down by 1 after 20 minutes of play.
Tanner MacMaster knotted things up at 13:18 of the second period, firing home a cross-crease pass from Pontus Aberg. MacMaster has picked up a point (3-4-6) in each of his last seven games. The Amerks were quick to respond as Scott Wilson restored their lead at 16:53 of the second. The Marlies again found themselves down by one heading into the intermission.
Darren Archibald brought the Marlies back into the game at 8:43 of the third period, batting home his 4th of the season to even the score 2-2. The score stayed locked at 2-2 for the remainder of the final frame, resulting in some 3-on-3 bonus hockey.
Pontus Aberg came through with the overtime heroics at 1:36 of the overtime frame, scoring his 10th of the season. Aberg has points (3-7-10) through seven games and this was his seventh multi-point game of the season.
