ABBOTSFORD, British Columbia – A lot has happened in Abbotsford during the past week.
Amid a once in a 100-year atmospheric river rainstorm, the Abbotsford Canucks had to reschedule two games that were originally scheduled for November 19 and 21 against the Bakersfield Condors. Those games will now be played in January.
During the nasty weather event water levels rose around the city due to a breached dike and three players had to be evacuated from their hotel. The Canucks have offered to help the City of Abbotsford recover from the disastrous flood in which people have lost their homes and livestock.

Prior to the flood, Abbotsford suffered a 3-2 shootout loss to the San Jose Barracuda at home. The baby Canucks are now in Arizona this Friday and Saturday to face the Roadrunners after having the two games postponed. It will be a total of twelve days since the Canucks last played a game.
Abbotsford is scheduled to return home and face the Ontario Reign on Tuesday, November 30. However, more atmospheric river rain events are heading for the Fraser Valley over the course of this week, so lets hope everyone remains safe and dry.
At a record of 4-4-2-1 Abbotsford sits in the middle of the AHLs Pacific Division. Sheldon Dries has lead the way offensively for the Canucks with six goals and six assists over the first 10 games he played. Goaltenders Arturs Silovs and Michael DiPietro have split the starts and have both played well to start the season. It will be interesting to see as the season goes on which goalie will take on the bulk of the workload.
The Canucks are lucky to be in sunny Arizona this week while another weather system approaches the Fraser valley. The city is bracing for more rain, and the Canadian Military is assisting to fix the dike system before it arrives. We are holding our collective breath in Abbotsford. Stay safe and take care of each other.
