Giants hit Stars for 7

Belfast Giants scored seven as they shut out the Dundee Stars on Sunday evening.

It was a dream start for the Giants as they opened the scoring inside 31 seconds. David Goodwin’s initial shot was saved by Emil Kruse, but Scott Conway was on hand to fire home the rebound. Belfast doubled their lead at 7:10 when Karl Boudrias fed Mike Lee, who drove into the right circle and finished well.

“I thought the guys played amazing,” said Jake Kupsky, who logged a shutout. “They didn’t give up much and the stuff that we did give up, they did it in a way where I know where it’s going to come from, so it’s easier for me to do my job and yeah the guys were awesome tonight.”

The Giants added a third at 16:17 as Nicolas Guay’s effort from the blue line was saved, but Jordan Kawaguchi converted the rebound to give the hosts a three-goal cushion.

Belfast’s control continued into the second period, with Carsen Twarynski finishing from the slot off a Ciaran Long pass at 36:07. Dundee were unable to capitalise on their power-play opportunities, with Jake Kupsky producing a number of strong saves to maintain the shutout.

Further goals from Karl Boudrias, Twarynski and Conway in the third period completed a 7-0 victory for the Giants, while Kupsky recorded a 29-shot shutout.

“This building is such a good atmosphere. The guys played so well in front of me today and to come out here after we got two points in Cardiff, to back it up with that kind of performance was awesome” added Kupsky.
