Blaze continue to claw their way back to playoff position

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze are in the midst of a battle to save their beleaguered season, they have struggled to string more than two wins together but thanks to reactive management they have clawed back from oblivion. They do have a game in hand on the Storm in ninth and they look to be holding their ground in that final play off berth, could Coventry be back to back play off winners?

That is where the beauty lies with the North American league format, albeit modified. Despite heading into the twilight of the season there is everything to play for despite the 175px-CoventryBlazenarrowing field in the race to the league title. The Storm could still surge back and take back the final spot meaning both teams still have all to play for going down the final stretch.

Herein lies the danger for the Blazes opponents. They are in an all or nothing situation. Whilst the league leaders are fighting over three trophies, the Blaze have entered the last chance saloon. Head coach Chuck Weber has certainly shown that he has tried to evolve his team to meet challenges and a month ago he made a bold statement by orchestrating trade with the Braehead Clan.

In exchange for Neil Trimm the Blaze received Chris Bruton. Both players have had great seasons so far but what Bruton adds to the Blazes roster is more physicality, not an attribute Coventry traditionally lack. It may be the spark the Blaze need for this final push and so far Bruton has answered the all posting 15 points in 11 games.

The Blaze have a foothold on a playoff seed but their position should not be considered secure. For them to have success this season they need some big wins and those wins will need to come at the cost of the teams fighting for the league title. When a team in the basement has as much to play for as the team sitting at the top you know you have the perfect formula for a spectacular season finale!
