Ducks defeat Flyers, 4-1 Flyers drop third straight

PHILADELPHIA – The Anaheim Ducks used two goals from Rickard Rakell to help lead them to a 4-1 win over the Flyers Tuesday.

The Ducks rebounded from a lackluster effort in Pittsburgh Monday.

“Everyone was really disappointed after last night,” Rakell said. “I had a tough time sleeping after the game. You just want to prove to your coaches and teammates that you’re better than that. … Being minus-4, it’s unacceptable. It was nice to get on the board early tonight.”

Chris Stewart (penalty shot) and Andrew Cogliano also scored for the Ducks.

“I couldn’t have written it up as good as that,” Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. “I thought our first period, especially the first 14 or 15 minutes of the first period, was pretty dominating. It shows the guys were a little ticked off by their effort last night and they wanted to atone for it.”

Frederik Andersen made 28 saves for the win.

“It’s frustrating, especially at home, to come out flat like this,” captain Claude Giroux said. “We lost the game in the first period.”

Wayne Simmonds scored the lone Flyers goal and Steve Mason made 22 saves in the loss.

“We know we have a tough schedule, but every team has a tough schedule,” Giroux said. “So we need to find a way to get it done, and tonight we weren’t playing our game. As a team, we want to have an identity, and tonight that wasn’t the case. We need to figure it out.”

The Flyers have been a busy team since coming out of the All Star break with five games in eight days.

It was also a busy night of parading to the penalty box for the Ducks who killed off six of seven penalties on the night.

“Our [penalty kill] has been great all year,” Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf said. “Coming off last year, we got a lot of the same guys killing together, which helps. You get that chemistry going together where you know what each other is going to do, you can read off each other, and guys are buying in. They’re blocking shots and doing the things that we need to do, and we’ve having great goaltending.”
