In Los Angeles Saturday, the Kings got goals from Drew Doughty and Dwight King to lift them to a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Jonathan Quick made 29 saves, none more important than those in the final few minutes of the game when the Flyers were pressing an extra man on the ice.
“I’ve said it time and time again,” Kings defenseman Alec Martinez said. “I think he’s the best goalie in the world.”
For LA, it was their fifth straight win and they now lead the Pacific Division by a seemingly improbable 12 points.

“Usually Anaheim’s run away with it by now so we’re trying to… make sure it hasn’t changed,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. “We’re trying to be a playoff team. You don’t want to be fighting for third spot. We tried it last year and it doesn’t work.”
Brayden Schenn scored on the power play in the third period to spoil Quick’s shutout bid.
“In a perfect world, you’d like to play a little more often if you’re on the road for eight days, but those are the quirks in the schedule,” Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said. “You have to find ways to take advantage of those, and we didn’t do that on this trip.”
The Flyers went 0-3-0 in California on this trip.
Michal Neuvirth took the loss, making 30 saves.
“We’ve got to make sure that we don’t turn the puck over, especially at our blue line and especially early in the game,” Neuvirth said. “Hockey is about mistakes and we made a couple in the first that cost us the game.”
