Gaborik rallies Kings past Chicago, 3-2, in OT

In Los Angeles Saturday night, Marian Gaborik was a one-man force that willed the Kings to a 3-2 overtime win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Trailing 2-0 in the third the Kings got goals from Gaborik and Jeff Carter (who scored 52 seconds into the third) to force extra time.

Gaborik then completed the rally with his second of the game just over two minutes into extra time.

“We never thought that we weren’t going to win,” Gaborik said. “There was a no-quit atmosphere here and attitude, and we knew we could come back.”

Gaborik has had a slow year to date and the goals were his fourth and fifth of the campaign.

“Goal scorers build confidence by scoring goals,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. “Hopefully it’s a jump start.”

Patrick Kane scored in the first to extend his point streak to 19 games and Niklas Hjalmarsson‘s goal made it 2-0 in the second period.

“Well, we got a point,” Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. “We got our chance. [Toews] had a breakaway late, and we had two A-plus chances in overtime. They had some high quality as well, so it was a pretty good trip.”

Jonathan Quick made 20 saves for the win and Scott Darling took the loss on 33 saves.
