PHN’s Best SHots of the Game: Walleye down Komets in shootout

FORT WAYNE, Ind –  Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped all five shooters he faced as the Walleye collected a 2-1 shootout win Wednesday night in Fort Wayne. Toledo has an overall record of 30-10-3-2 on the season and is 17-6-1-0 on the road.

PHN_BSOG-200x133Both Jeff Lerg for the Walleye and Pat Nagle for the Komets were stellar in the first period as each made seven saves. Toledo had a pair of power play chances in the first period. The first goal of the game from the Komets Christian Ouellet at 16:40 of the second period. Anthony Luciani (19th) took a perfect pass from Justin Mercier on scored on a breakaway at 17:20 to even the game at one following two periods.

Neither team was able score in the third period or overtime. In the shootout, Troy Schwab scored his third shootout goal of the season and that was enough for goaltender Jeff Lerg who stopped all five.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg made 28 saves on 29 shots and has a record of 21-5-1-1 on the season. The 21 wins is a new single season record for wins by a Walleye goaltender breaking the old mark of 20 set in 2012-13 by Kent Simpson. Toledo has a record of 6-3-0-1 when tied after two periods.
