PENTICTON, B.C. – The Calgary Flames came from behind, forcing the extra period,, but Edmonton’s Jaedon Descheneau was able to intercept a pass, and ultimately skate down the ice and score the game winner in overtime with a final score of 4-3.
The Flames Matthew Tkachuk scored the first goal for the Flames in the first period, but Joey Benik answered with a goal of his own to tie the teams at one apiece.
The second period was very physical, and both goaltenders, Dylan Wells for the Oilers and Tyler Parsons made some great saves. Parsons was relieved by Mason McDonald about halfway through the period, leaving with 20 saves in 21 shots on goal.
Oiler’s Joey Benik scored on a powerplay goal with 8 minutes remaining. Collin Shirley scored on a quick wrist shot from the right circle to put the Oilers up 3-1.
Mikhail Aagaard scored on a great slap shot from the top of the left circle with 12:06 remaining, followed three minutes later by the Calgary equalizer off the stick of Braden Burke, forcing the sudden-death overtime period.
