CHICAGO, Ill. – It was a night of defensive and offense as one team scored more goals than the other three teams playing tonight combined. The Binghamton Senators won by the score of 6-1 as they take a commanding three game to one lead in the series. They can advance to the Eastern Conference Finals if they can finish off the Portland Pirates Tuesday night. In the other Eastern Conference series, a battle ensued as both Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and the Charlotte could only muster a goal apiece in regulation on to have the Checkers Brett Sutter score in the overtime session. The Penguins trail in the series two games to one.
Also joining the Portland/Binghamton game tonight, we have two others as the Western Conference is featured as Hamilton now travels to Manitoba taking their two game lead with them. And in Houston, the Milwaukee Admirals will try to break the 1-1 series against the Aeros.
SECOND ROUND Atlantic Division Finals PORTLAND vs. BINGHAMTON Binghamton leads series 3 – 1
The Binghamton Senators are close to deep-sixing the Portland Pirates on Tuesday night after an offensive outburst put away the Pirates by the score of 6-1. The two teams will now play back-to-back nights where Binghamton, with a win, can advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
Left wing mike Hoffman scored his first professional playoff goal in the first on the power play at the 2:54 mark to start the game. Portland answered for the only and last time in the game as Nick Crawford assisted Luke Adam for his third goal of the playoffs. The scoring was almost a countdown to the end of the game as the Senators scored two more in the first with goals from Kaspars Daugavins and Ryan Kelly, who scored his sixth goal in the playoffs, on the power play. This made for a total of three scored in the first followed by two in the second and a single goal in the third.
In the middle frame, it was Daugavins again for his second of the game and seventh of the playoffs early in the period unassisted. Center Ryan Potulny scored his ninth and tenth goals of playoffs to push the Pirates onto the plank.
Robin Lehner had a pretty easy game facing on 23 shots in the game for the win, while the Pirates tandem of David Leggio and Jhonas Enroth couldn’t solve the Senators attack.
