2011 Calder Cup Playoffs April 30 Review

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Houston Aeros showed some rust after being off for nine days before having to face their West Division Finals rivals in the Milwaukee Admirals. They couldn’t get it going having hit on only 14 shots on goal against Jeremy Smith in the first two periods.
The Admirals scored the first three goals in their Game 1 victory by the score of 3-1. Mark Van Guilder and Ryan Thang assisted on veteran center Steve Begin goal at 9:49 into the first period. Right wing Taylor Beck added to the lead under a minute later with helpers from Gabriel Bourque and Ryan Ellis to give Milwaukee the 2-0 lead after the first.
The lead stayed that way after the second period but 32 seconds into the third, Begin and Thang combined again with the favor returned as Thang scored his third of the playoffs. Houston finally got on the board too little too late as Colton Gillies scored the final tally with 13:07 left in the game.
Smith stopped all but one of the 26 shots for the win; while across the way, Matt Hackett suffered the loss with 18 saves on 21 shots.
This was the only game on Friday night and two slated for Saturday as Binghamton will try to take a 3-0 against Portland and in the second game, Charlotte will continue their memorable season against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. SECOND ROUND Atlantic Division Finals PORTLAND vs. BINGHAMTON Binghamton leads series 2 – 0
After taking the first two games against the Pirates in Portland, the Binghamton Senators come home with the home-ice advantage with a three game set. The Senators Bobby Butler has scored in each of the first two games giving him six goals in the playoffs. Fellow forward Kaspars Daugavins also has two goals which both came at the last game in the 5-3 victory. Goalie Robin Lehner has both wins and has been outstanding facing a combined 81 shots on goal. The Pirates have used both of their goalie in Jhonas Enroth and David Leggio but can’t seem to get the win with either one. Right wing Mark Mancari leads the team with 2 goals in the series.
