2011 Calder Cup Playoff April 25 Review

CHICAGO, Ill. – Two series were finished on Sunday as the Charlotte Checkers eliminated the defending Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears by the score of 2-1 in overtime. The Hamilton Bulldogs also won their series four games to two in beating the Oklahoma City Barons by the score of 4-1. In Lake Erie, the Manitoba Moose fought off elimination to force a game seven on Tuesday and the only other series resumes on Monday as the Texas Stars visit Milwaukee as the Admirals can win the series at home.   FIRST ROUND Atlantic Division Semifinals PORTLAND vs. CONNECTICUT Portland wins series 4 – 2

In a close game, the first year AHL Charlotte Checker eliminated the two-time AHL Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears in Game 6 by the score of 2-1. Both teams could ony muster up one goal a piece before the Checkers Nicolas Blanchard score 1:30 into the overtime period.
 
Charlotte came out scoring fast 35 seconds into the game as Brett Sutter scored with assists from Zac Dalpe and Zach Boychuk. That goal was bookended in the third with the only other score in regulation. Hershey defensemen Brian Fahey scored the final goal for the Bears for the season.

The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Oklahoma City Barons by the score 4-1 to advance to the North Division Finals. It was a low shooting affair that only saw a total of 44 shots taken by both teams. Both teams skated tight and could not place a goal in the net for the first two period of the game.
 
The Barons scored their only goal of the game as Alexandre Girouxscores with helpers from Jake Taylor and Brad Moran at the 5:41 mark. Just over a minute later Nigel Dawes scored his fourth goal of the playoffs to tie the score. Late in the period on the power play, defenseman Frederic St. Denis scored at 17:04. The goal was the eventual game-winner as Hamilton scored two more in the final period on the empty net. Dawes scored his second and J.T. Wyman finished the Barons season for good.
 
Drew MacIntyre was great in goal again allowing only one goal on 25 shots for the win. Veteran Martin Gerber faced only 17 shots but let two of those in.

The Manitoba Moose have forced a game seven on Tuesday as they defeated the Lake Erie Monsters by the score of 3-1. Goaltender Eddie Lack was excellent in goal to hold the Monster to one goal on 29 shots.
 
After a scoreless first, the two teams exchanged goals in the second. Lake Erie scores on the power play early in the period at the 2:10 mark with a goal from center Julian Talbot. A minute and a half later Bill Sweatt tied up the score with assists from Kevin Clark and Jordan Schroeder.
 
The Moose put the game away with two goals in the third as defense scored the first from defenseman Keith Seabrook on the power play 7:36 in. Sergei Shirokov finished the scoring with his fourth of the series.
