2 more non-returnees for Vipers

NEWCASTLE, UK – Newcastle player coach Danny Stewart has confirmed that forward Ben Campbell and goalie Richie Lawson will not be playing for the Vipers next season.

Campbell has rejected an offer from the Vipers to join an EPL team, while Lawson is considering a similar move to continue his career after Liam McAllister was signed as backup goalie for the new campaign.

“Ben had something of a breakout year last year, with a lot of time on the top two forward lines,” said a club spokesman.
“That development would have continued next year in terms of ice time, however Ben has taken up another option and we wish him well in the EPL.
“Richie has been with the organisation for four seasons now, and has not let the club down when he has been called into action.  He has learned from each of our import netminders and worked hard to improve his game.
“The Vipers want to put on record their thanks to both players for their contribution to the club and we wish them success in their future ventures.”
Coach Stewart is continuing negotiations with players and agents as he looks to fill the roster for the 2010 Elite League season. Fans can hear from Stewart himself this Thursday night at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead (7.30) and put their questions direct to him. Chairman Paddy O’Connor and GM Jaimie Longmuir will also be in attendance with an update from Tuesday’s EIHL board meeting. At said EIHL board meeting it is strongly rumoured to be confirmed that Dundee will be icing a team in the EIHL in the forthcoming season. Dundee haven’t played at this sort of level since the collapse of the BNL 5 seasons back and have only participated in the NPL, SNL and Celtic Leagues. Where this would leave local rivals and one of the oldest teams in the UK, Fife Flyers, is anyones guess, but sad to say it may see the once proud Flyers descend to the lowest level of hockey in Scotland. Pressure is mounting on Flyers owner to at least apply to the EIHL, however by admitting Dundee the EIHL will have a round 10 teams and having Fife in their too would cause issues with scheduling, unless another team could be found.
