LOS ANGELES – The 2016 World Cup ended as expected with Team Canada hoisting the silverware. It truly seemed a fait accompli from the start of the round-robin pre-tourney games.
Team Europe was game but in the end, Team Canada had too much.
From an international perspective a few lessons can be taken other than Team USA being one of the more despicable efforts in international play.
Here is what we did learn in the last few weeks.
1. Sidney Crosby is the best player in the world.
2. Carey Price is the best goalie in the world.
3. Connor McDavid is probably going be the next best player in the World.
4. Russia and the United States need better coaching to compete against the world’s best.
5. Brad Marchand is a great all-around player, not just a supreme rat.
6. Tomas Tatar and Nathan Mackinnon are primed for big seasons.
7. If Columbus stinks again this year it won’t be Sergei Bobrovsky’s fault.
8. Edmonton should have given Ralph Krueger more than a year.
9. The Czechs aren’t as bad as we thought but the Fins are worse.
10. Calgary needs to sign Johnny Hockey Gaudreau fast and give him money more than Sean Monahan.
11. Barry Melrose is a gem. It’s a crime he doesn’t call games on a regular basis.
Now let’s get settled in for the regular season.
