Zion heading down the road

NOTTINGHAM, England – The Nottingham Panthers have today confirmed Canadian defence-man Jonathan Zion as their new signing. The 6’1” 205lb offensive d-man played in the Elite League last season, for Nottingham ’s rivals the Sheffield Steelers. Zion has played in the AHL for several teams and also has had stints in the ECHL, OHL and has European experience in Austria , Denmark , Norway and Sweden .

The offensive defence-man scored 25 points in 23 games for the Steelers last season, an unbelievable return for a d-man. The signing of Zion also signals that the Panthers have only one more defensive slot to fill, with the signings of Norton, Neilson, Lee and Meyers also confirmed. Neilson had this to say about the signing on the clubs website:
“Jon is an offensive threat but also knows his job on the blue-line. He brings a lot to the table and I can see him having a big role on special teams for us as well as playing a defensive game at times whilst also jumping into the play to help the forwards.
“He was one of the top defencemen in the Elite League last year and his skills shone out so it was no wonder a lot of clubs wanted to sign him for next year.”
