Zetterberg sending Red Wings back to Cali

May 10 2013

DETROIT, Mich – Anaheim was looking to close this series out tonight at the Joe Louis Arena not wanting to go back to California for a game seven.

Detroit had other plans as they over came a late surge by the Ducks and pulled out a 4-3 over time win to tie this series at three games a piece.

Pavel Datsyuk got things going late in the first as he got his 2nd from Henrik Zetterberg and Jonathan Ericsson.Detroit-Red-Wings-Logo

The Red Wings outshot the Ducks 11-7 after twenty and led 1-0.

Jimmy Howard came up big in the second making a huge stop on Teemu Selanne.

Ducks d-man Lucas Sbisa delivered a thundering body check on Wings forward Damien Brunner to give the visitors a huge momentum swing.

Kyle Palmieri rang a shot off the post and in off Brendan Smith for his 3rd to tie things at 1-1.

Jonas Hiller made a great glove save off Justin Adelkader late to keep things squared at one.

The Ducks out shot the red Wings 14-6 in the second.

Howard denied crafty vet Selanne again in the third.

Captain Zetterberg got his 1st of the series on the power play as he blasted one past a screened Hiller to make it 2-1 Detroit.

Howard then made a glove save off Corey Perry to keep the lead.

Things finally got heated when during a stoppage Perry dumped Datsyuk and the benches started chirping at each other.

At the end of another power play Abdelkader got his 2nd just as the penalty expired to make it 3-1 Red Wings.

Valtteri Filppula then had a brain cramp behind his own net giving the puck to Emerson Etem who scored on a surprised Howard to make it 3-2.

On a questionable missed penalty call on Perry, Bobby Ryan got his 2nd of the series to tie things up at 3-3 after a nice feed from Perry.

With under a minute to go Zetterberg hit the post and for the fourth time in the series these two would need over time once again.

Just a minute into the extra frame Zetterberg got his 2nd of the game after an icing call, and a time out from the Ducks, Datsyuk won the face off and Niklas Kronwall found the captain who ripped a shot past Hiller to win it.

Back to Cali for game seven where anything can happen.

Howard made 34 saves for the win.

Hiller made 25 saves in the loss.
