Wranglers cruise, 6-3, lead series 2-1

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Utah Grizzlies opted to start this best-of-five series in Las Vegas in the hopes of taking at least one game in Vegas and coming home to their friendly confines.   The first half of the strategy worked and the club split the first two games in Sin City; the second half, not so much, so far.   The Las Vegas Wranglers used their special teams to build a 3-0 first period lead and cruised to a 6-3 game three win over the Grizzlies. The win puts Utah in a difficult position of winning the next two games or seeing their season end.   Adam Miller picked up his first of the post season on the power play at 11:24 of the first.   Just over four minutes later, fellow centerman Josh Prudden took advantage of a turnover and potted his second of the series for a shorthanded goal and a 2-0 lead.   Vegas’ third center, Chris Neiszner, got in the act in the first with a goal to make 3-0.     The lead ballooned to 4-0 when Ned Lukacevic added his first of the series in the second.     Utah cut the lead in half with two goals about two minutes apart midway through the second, but Vegas answered with a power play marker from Lukacevic to up the lead to 5-2.     The two clubs traded early goals in the third and seemed more interested in getting ready for game four.   Jimmy Spratt stopped 22 of 25 shots for Vegas while Mikko Koskinen and Mike Morrison (replaced Koskinen in the second) split the net duties for the Grizzlies, each yielding three goals on 29 total shots.   Game four is Sunday afternoon at 3:05 PM MDT.   Contact Lou.Lafrado@prohockeynews.com
