GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Central Hockey League has announced that Wichita Thunder forward Alex Bourret has been named the Sher-Wood Central Hockey League Player of the Month for December 2011. A key contributor for the Thunder this year, Bourret is currently leading the team with 39 points (13 G, 26 A) with 23 of those points coming in the month of December.
The Drummondville, Quebec native recorded a point in 12 of the 14 games he played in December, boasting a nine-game point streak at one stage. He totaled nine goals, 14 assists and a +9 plus/minus rating during the month. The Thunder are currently leading the way in the Berry Conference with a 20-8-1 record and are tied with the Fort Wayne Komets for the most points in the league. Bourret was a first round draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers in 2005, selected 16th overall. The seven-year pro spent his first four seasons of his career in the AHL, splitting time with Chicago, Hartford and San Antonio. He totaled 97 points in 170 games with his last appearance back in 2008-09. In his first professional season in 2005-06, Bourret played with the Chicago Wolves, contributing 32 points in 45 games, tallying 11 goals and 21 assists. Bourret was recently named a reserve player to the 2012 CHL All-Star Game. On Thursday afternoon, the Thunder announced that Bourret has been called-up to the Worcester Sharks of the American Hockey League.
