Welcome back Carter

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Jeff Carter finally got the monkey off his back by scoring twice in a 4-1 Flyers win over the New Jersey Devils to push the team one game away from the second round of the playoffs with a potential date with the Washington Capitals who are up 2-1 in their series against the Montreal Canadiens. After Ilya Kovalchuk’s first period goal, it was all Flyers the rest of the game. Carter scored the first of his two goals on the power play by skating around at the left face off circle and fired a wrist shot past Martin Brodeur to tie the game at one. Danny Briere also broke out of his slump by skating down the right wing boards and blasted a slap shot past Brodeur to put the Flyers up 2-1 after two periods.
Game three hero Dan Carcillo put the Flyers up 3-1 when he skated behind the Devils net, spun around and put a shot on net that somehow got by Brodeur for his second goal of the playoffs 4:10 into the third period. Carter put the Devils out of their misery by blasting a slap shot past Brodeur from the left point to seals the deal for the Flyers.

The Devils outshot the Flyers 31-28. Philadelphia is 17-2 all-time when leading 3-1 in a series while New Jersey is 1-7 when trailing 3-1 with their only win coming against the Flyers in 2000.
