NEWCASTLE,U.K- Elite league Newcastle Vipers have announced that Chris McAllister will be patrolling the blue line for them in the 2008-09 season. McAllister return’s to the Vipers for a second stint, his first time in Newcastle was a short period on Tyneside during the NHL lock out playing 13 games for the Vipers in the 2004-05 season. McAllister became a firm fans favourite with his uncompromising style and willingness to graft for the team.
McAllister is one of four defensemen that Coach Wilson now has for the forthcoming campaign. Mark Gouet, Burt Henderson and Jez Lundin were all re-signed after impressing last term. Another blue liner is expected to join that impressive defensive quartet before the season commences in September.
McAllister brings a wealth of experience having played in the NHL for New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Cannucks and the Philadelphia Flyers as well as stacking up many games in the AHL. The 33 year old brings true presence to the blue line and he will certainly let the opposition know he is on the ice.
Viper’s roster is now starting to take shape, on the import front only one more defenseman and two centres are expected to come in. It would be great to see another experienced Brit join the ranks at the arena next season to give the squad a little more strength in depth as injuries and suspensions are sure to hit home on many occasions during the season.
