NEWCASTLE, UK – Newcastle Vipers have signed right winger Dale Mahovsky as Coach Danny Stewart continues to build his squad ahead of the 2010/111 campaign. Mahovsky has spent the last 4 seasons playing in the CWUAA with the University of Alberta.
Due to a change in regulations Elite League clubs are now permitted to sign players straight from College in North America and this has increased the pool of talent British teams have to choose from. Most Elite League sides are expected to take advantage of this new rule as many up and coming youngsters are now free to sign for the top sides in Great Britain.
Mahovsky has a wealth of experience as he started his career with the Kootenay Ice back in the 2000/1 season when he iced on a couple of occasions for the WHL side. He went onto play for the Ice in the next 5 campaigns. Having the most productive season of his career in the 2004/5 term when he posted an impressive total of 71 points in the regular season with another 15 points coming in the Play Offs.
Dale switched to the University of Michigan in 2006/7 and has picked up around a point every other game during his time there. Mahovsky seems to be a versatile player who can play on the wing or at centre and this adaptability will no doubt be of benefit to Vipers this term as the clubs new player coach Danny Stewart looks to build 3 strong forward lines virtually from scratch.
The Newcastle Vipers squad is now starting to take shape as rookie coach Danny Stewart has now signed a number of his roster for the 2010/11 season. It is hoped that Stewart can continue to bring in a number of promising young players from both at home and abroad in the next few weeks.
