WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Utah Grizzlies took away game one of the Western Conference Quarter-Finals with a final score of 5-2 in a fast paced game at the Maverik Center before 2,167 fans.   Stockton opened the scoring early in the game on a goal by Kelly Czuy at 1:13 into the first period, with assists to Chris Lawrence and Ryan Constant.   After that, Utah’s   goaltender Jean-Philippe Lamoureux all but closed the door.   A Utah frenzy of three goals in under four minutes late in the period, would send them into the break with the lead 3-1, never looking back; with goals by Kevin Deeth, Simon Ferguson and Matt Reber (powerplay).

The second period, Jody Peterson was the loan goal scored at 16:09, while Tyson Sexsmith stopped all 13 shots during the period.     Utah put away the game with a late power play goal at 18:23 followed by an empty net goal at 19:12, by Brett Parnham and Ferguson’s second of the night, respectively, giving the Grizzlies the first game of the best of five series with a final score of 5-2.     Lamoureaux had 26 saves in the match up, while Sexsmith took the loss with 32.   Ferguson had two goals and two assists and Paul McIlveen had three assists for the night.   Game two is Wednesday night.   Contact the writer at Shellie.Lima@prohockeynews.com   Contact the photographer at Jack.Lima@prohockeynews.com
