With just 32 seconds remaining in the first period, the Grizzlies were first on the scoresheet with Rylan Galiardi’s wrist shot from the point finding the back of the net past Michael Hutchinson. The Reign were three-for-three on the penalty kill in the first frame.
Jake Newton recorded his first goal of the season at the 4:24 mark of the second period when the Reign were on a two-man advantage; Cameron Burt earned the lone assist with a pass to Newton at the top of the slot who wristed a laser, top shelf past Aaron Dell. The goal marked the first power-play goal against the Grizzlies at the Maverik Center. Mario Lamoureux put the Reign up for the first time of the night with just 56 seconds left in the second period. The center came into the high slot to receive a tape to tape pass from Brett Beebe and whipped his shot past Dell.
The Grizzlies tied the game 2-2 with a power-play goal 9:13 into the third period. A shot clanged off the post and the rebound came loose for Adam Pineault to flick past Hutchinson for the equalizer.
A scoreless overtime frame led to a five round shootout where the Grizzlies lit the lamp twice which was enough to earn the second point over the Reign’s lone shootout goal scored by Lamoureux.
Hutchinson had an outstanding game stopping 38 of 40 shots; Dell earned the win with 26 saves on 28 shots.
