USHL roars back into action after Christmas break

PAPILLION, NEBRASKA – The USHL began their regular season play this week with a slew of games beginning on New Year’s Eve.  Teams will continue to play their regular schedule until January 26, 2010 when the USHL will celebrate its All Star game in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Green Bay 4, Des Moines 1
Green Bay, Wisconsin – Patrick McCadden scored two goals for the East Division leading Gamblers and Steve Summerhays stopped 25 shots for his 15th win this season.
 
Waterloo 4, Lincoln 3
Waterloo, Iowa – Waterloo sunk the struggling Stars 3-2 in the shoot out to take the win from Lincoln.  The win is the tenth this season for the Black Hawks who will need to improve their play in the second half of the season.
 
Sioux Falls 4, Tri-City 2
Kearney, Nebraska – Josh Holmstrom, Matt Farris, and Matt Bailey each had two point nights for the Stampede who won 15th game this season.  Brandon, Florida native and Sioux Falls goalie Clay Witt stopped 26 shots from the Storm to record his tenth win this season.
 
Omaha 5, Sioux City 3
Sioux City, Iowa – The Musketeers-Lancers New Years Eve rivalry continued with the Lancers cruising to the win.  Omaha was led by C.J. Ludwig and Dennis Brown’s multi point evenings.  Jeff Teglia stopped 22 of 25 shots for the Lancers in his 17th win this season.
 
Fargo 4, Team USA 3
Fargo, North Dakota – The Force played shut out hockey for the latter two periods as Team USA would score three times in the first period.  Nate Condon and Cole Gunner recorded two points apiece for Fargo in their 17th winning effort this season.
 
January 1, 2009
Team USA 4, Sioux Falls 2
Sioux Falls, South Dakota – Mathew Nieto scored twice to lead Team USA.  Team USA was forced to use a tandem with their goaltenders which worked to their favor as Andy Iles would stop 19 of 19 shots and Colin Stevens would stop 19 of 21 shots in the winning effort.
 
Tri-City 4, Des Moines 2
Des Moines, Iowa – Carsen Chubak made 41 saves for the Storm to win his ninth game of the season.  The win is the 12th this year for Tri-City who was also assisted to a win by superstar Jaden Schwartz who contributed two assists.
 
Chicago 5, Lincoln 4
Chicago, Illinois – Connor Wilson turned away 36 shots for the Steel as they dropped the Stars in the overtime shoot out.  The shoot out loss was the second in as many nights for Lincoln who continues to struggle this season.  Jay Camper and Andrei Kuchin recorded two points apiece in the winning effort for the Chicago Steel.

Sioux City 4, Tri-City 3
Sioux City, Iowa – Despite Brett Mohler’s three point night, the Storm were unable to come away with a win as Sioux City would hang on through the third period to kill the rally.  Darik Angeli and Mitch Zion recorded two points apiece to lead the Musketeers to victory over the Storm.
 
Fargo 6, Omaha 5
Omaha, Nebraska – What more do you need to know?  Fargo had 72 penalty minutes on 17 infractions and Omaha had 92 penalty minutes on 20 infractions.  Man, semi-pro hockey is great!  On the hockey side of things, Fargo limited Omaha to just 23 shots on goal to claim the victory.  Led by Colten St. Clair, Matt Leitner, and Chase Grant’s three points nights the Force took care of business to come away with their 18th win this season.
 
Cedar Rapids 7, Des Moines 5
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Bryce Aneloski had a memorable evening scoring one goal and five assists for a six point evening.  The 18 year old Pekin, Illinois native defenseman has recorded 30 points this season and has committed to the University of Nebraska at Omaha. 
 
Chicago 2, Lincoln 1
Chicago, Illinois – Andrei Kuchin and Alex Simonson scored for the Steel as Lincoln dropped their 16th game this season.  Chicago netminder Connor Wilson stopped 30 of 31 shots to lead the Steel to their 13th win this season.
