USHL readies for All-Star festivities

PAPILLION, NEBRASKA – The USHL will take a slight break in play as each teams All-Star representatives meet in Indianapolis, Indiana for the USHL All-Star game.  The game will be played on January 26, 2010 and will see the East Division All-Stars meet the West Division All-Stars in what promises to be a very action packed game. In the mean time here is my weekly review of the goings on in the USHL’s West Division.

Sioux Falls 2, Fargo 1
Sioux Falls, South Dakota – The Stampede ended their losing streak behind Clay Witt’s 27 saves.  The win is the 12th this season for Witt and the 17th for Sioux Falls.
Waterloo 5, Tri-City 3
Waterloo, Iowa – Tyler Barnes led the Black Hawks with two goals and two assists to down the Storm.  Also contributing three points was Dan Sova who had three assists on the night. 
Cedar Rapids 2, Omaha 0
Omaha, Nebraska – A two point second period led the RoughRiders over the Lancers in the battle of the two divisional heavy weights.  Cody Campbell made 28 saves in the winning effort to collect his second win and first shutout this season.

Sioux Falls 8, Team USA 2
Sioux Falls, South Dakota – The Stampede devastated Team USA in every possible statistic available.  With 49 shots on goal and 14 shots allowed, Sioux Falls make the Nationals Developmental Team suffer.  Led by Brent Darnell’s three points, Sioux Falls improved to 18 wins this season.
Lincoln 6, Tri-City 2
Kearney, Nebraska – The Lincoln Stars have really struggled of late.  Recording only 11 wins in 34 games; Lincoln has been one of the worst teams in the USHL.  All that didn’t matter against the Storm though as Garrett Peterson would record three points in the stellar Stars win to lead Lincoln.

Tri-City 3, Indiana 1
Indianapolis, Indiana – Steven Bolton blocked 42 shots on goal to claim the win over the Ice.  Helped by Jaden Schwartz’s two point offensive contribution the Storm win their 16th of the season.
Omaha 7, Lincoln 0
Lincoln, Nebraska – Erik Haula recorded a hat trick, Jeff Teglia shut out the Stars, and Matt White had three assists for the Lancers who dominated the Lincoln Stars.  Lincoln would receive 50 penalty minutes on 18 infractions to help cull their frustration.
Cedar Rapids 10, Sioux Falls 1
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Cason Hohmann and David Boehm would contribute four points apiece for the RoughRiders who devastated the Stampede for their 20th win this season.
Fargo 4, Team USA 3
Fargo, North Dakota – The Force forced 41 shots onto Team USA whom was reluctant to give up.  Despite their hard efforts, Fargo would have to pick up their 24th win on Garrett Allen’s shootout goal.
Chicago 5, Des Moines 4
Chicago, Illinois – Jake Chelios scored the game winning goal in overtime to lead the Steel past Des Moines.  Chelios finished the game with three points.  The win is the 14th this year for Chicago.
Green Bay 2, Sioux City 1
Green Bay, Wisconsin – Ryan McKay stopped 22 shots on goal to collect his seventh win this season.  The Gamblers won on Sean Little’s game winning goal six minutes into the third period.  That is Green Bay’s 26th win this season which gives them a one point lead on Omaha for the league title.

Indianapolis, Indiana – Jaden Schwartz and Brett Mohler would score the final two shots on the shootout to capture the win for the Storm.  Shane Berschbach recorded two points for the Ice.
Sioux Falls 1, Lincoln 0
Lincoln, Nebraska – with 54 seconds left in overtime, Sioux Falls picked up their tough win when Dan Furlong scored to end the game.  Clay Witt made 32 saves for the Stampede in the shutout victory.
Green Bay 2, Des Moines 1
Green Bay, Wisconsin – Steve Summerhays stopped 23 shots for his 20th win this season. The Anchorage, Alaska native has 1.98 goals against average this season in 25 games.
Omaha 2, Waterloo 1
Waterloo, Iowa – Jeff Teglia made 30 saves for Omaha in the winning effort.  C.J. Ludwig and Nick Oddo scored for the Lancers.
Chicago 3, Sioux City 2
Chicago, Illinois – Dan Kolomatis scored the lone shoot out goal for the Steel to edge Sioux City.  Andrei Kuchin and Greg Wolfe also scored for Chicago.
