BERLIN – Pro Hockey News was contacted this weekend regarding an unusual, if not unique, hat trick in the Oberliga Ost in Germany. On February 10, 2012, Vince Scarsella recorded a natural trick for his club, the ECC Preussen Berlin Juniors.
The rarity of the hat trick was not in that it was a “natural” rather it was the fact the natural hat trick’s three goals were all scored shorthanded.
The feat came against the Tornado Niesky.
In a span of a little more than nine minutes in the third period, Scarsella scored his hat trick ( game scoring sheet ). Preussen won the match 6-3.
Following a standout career at Canisius College in the Atlantic Hockey Conference from 2007-2011 Scarsella signed a pro deal with the ECC Preussen Berlin Juniors in the Oberliga Ost league in Germany. After 29 league games, he leads the Preussen in scoring with 27 goals and 20 assists.
During Scarsella‘s career at Canisius, he held the school’s Division 1 era record in games played at 144. He was also named to the Atlantic Conference All-Rookie team and to the 3rd team all-conference team after his junior year. He led his team in scoring in the playoffs last year against Mercyhurst and Holy Cross.
Pro Hockey News congratulates Vince Scarsella on his hat trick.
