MILTON KEYNES, UK – There are quite a few UK celebrities that the general public would like their favourite ice hockey team to shoot pucks at. Former footballer and Sky Sports presenter Chris Kamara is probably not one of them.
The immensely popular Kamara is a TV icon amongst football fans in the UK who love to see his enthusiastic presentation of the Goals on Sunday Show every week, and also his manic punditry on the Soccer Saturday Show for Sky Sports.
His latest venture on Saturday morning TV show Soccer AM see’s him take on a number of unusual challenges for a “Kammy do it?” feature that has so far seen him arm wrestle Jeff Stelling and box with Amir Khan.
Most recently the 52 year old travelled to Milton Keynes to meet the current English Premier League champions Milton Keynes Lightning. Kamara received a warm welcome from the hockey team who then spent over two hours shooting pucks at him. The challenge was to see how many pucks he could save in a thirty second period, with the players skating from the blue line to the high slot and shooting one after the other in rapid fire style in a continuous loop.
The former Sheffield Utd and Bradford City footballer, who is famous for his catchphrase ‘Unbelievable Jeff’, apparently struggled to put the goalie kit on at first, but once dressed, stepped on to the ice at Milton Keynes with enthusiasm.
MK Lightning Captain Adam Carr was one of those firing pucks at Kamara and he thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon with the Soccer AM crew.
“Kammy came on the ice to a guard of honour, but fell over at the end of it” said Carr. “He had never been on the ice before but he was bang up for the challenge and the crew were really sound”
“There were only three or four lads missing from the squad so after three takes, Kammy was knackered. We decided not to take any head shots or slap shots and it was a £1 fine to the kitty for anyone who missed,
“Funnily enough Kammy caught one of the shots in his catcher but didn’t realise until somebody told him afterwards. Muzzy (Michael Wales) failed to score which was amusing, as was Leigh Jamieson leaving the puck behind on his first attempt,
“Overall it was a great afternoon for our team and a great advert for hockey in MK and no doubt the country, Kammy is a top bloke. It’s not going to be screened this week but should be in the next couple of weeks so we are all looking forward to that”
MK Lightning will be hoping that their extra shooting practice comes in handy as they take on the Sheffield Steeldogs this Saturday in Milton Keynes. Face-off is at 7pm and more information can be found on their official website, including further information about Kammy’s time in MK:

Will Kamara get the nod over starting MK Lightning goalie Barry Hollyhead for the game on Saturday? Fans will have to head down to the rink to find out.
