TULSA, Okla. – On Saturday night, veteran Tulsa Oilers forward Marty Standish is slated to play in his 600th Central Hockey League contest. With 599 career games behind him, Standish is seventh on the league’s all-time games played list and is set to join Joe Burton, Travis Clayton, Jason Duda, Tyler Fleck (current teammate), Derek Landmesser and Chris Richards as players who have reached the 600 CHL games mark.
Standish, 33, has started all 37 games for the Oilers thus far this season and has tallied 18 points (4 G, 14 A, +2) and 50 penalty minutes. A native of rural Kelvington, Saskatchewan, Standish played four seasons of Junior hockey with the Portland Winter Hawks of the Western Hockey League. During his time in Oregon, Standish tallied 184 points (80 G, 104 A) and 480 PIM in 272 regular season games. He contributed nine points (5 G, 4 A) and 29 PIM in 16 games during the team’s 1997-98 Memorial Championship run. Standish went pro in 1999, splitting the 1999-00 season with the Kansas City Blades of the International Hockey League and the Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League. The following season, Standish signed with the Central Hockey League’s Oklahoma City Blazers, where he spent the majority of his career. During his first year with the club, Standish contributed to the Blazers’ first and only Ray Miron President’s Cup Championship win. He played in 63 regular season games and put up a career-best 87 points (43 G, 44 A) and 161 PIM. He added 13 points (6 G, 7 A) and 46 penalty minutes in 12 post-season contests. In addition, Standish was called up to the American Hockey League’s Portland Pirates for six games, contributing a goal, an assist and 31 PIM. Over the course of eight seasons with the Blazers, Standish tallied 448 points (188 G, 260 A) and 1,131 PIM in 323 regular season games. Standish played one season with the Quad City Mallards (UHL) in 2004-05 and one season with the Bloomington PrairieThunder (IHL) in 2008-09 before joining the Tulsa Oilers in 2009. Now in his third season with the Oilers, Standish’s 13-year career may be winding down, but there’s a lot of fight left and the pursuit of another championship win drives the feisty right wing day in and day out. Game number 600 will take place on the road against the Wichita Thunder tonight at the Intrust Bank Center.
