Tough test for Phoenix

MANCHESTER, UK – MANCHESTER Phoenix’ title aspirations will be tested this week end as they face Basingstoke Bison and Milton Keynes Lightning. Both sides have recruited well in the off season and have already beaten Tony Hand’s side. But after six wins in a row Phoenix are top of the English Premier League. “It is another tough weekend of hockey with the long trip to Basingstoke followed by the visit of Nick Poole’s side,” Hand said. “We are playing well and will be looking to avenge our earlier losses and win the points. “Confidence is high in the locker room and we want a good performance in front of our fans.” Saturday’s match at the second-placed Bison (6.30pm) sees Manchester take on Basingstoke in their own barn. Last time the two teams met, Phoenix lost 2-1 at home and we’re second best in every department. On Sunday, they welcome Milton Keynes to the IceDone (5.30pm) hoping to avenge a 8-2 loss earlier in the month. Phoenix will be near full strength with only forward Liam Chong on the long-term injury list. To contact the author email: Mike.Appleton@prohockeynews.com
