ALBANY, NY – If Cinderella has a name in this year’s Frozen Four tournament it is the RIT Tigers who knocked off New Hampshire 6-2 in the East Regional and advanced to the Frozen Four for the first time in school history. A three goal second period made sure of that.
After an evenly played first period that ended in a 1-1 tie, the Tigers turned on the offense with three goals from Tyler Brenner, Brent Alexin, and Stevan Matic 1:34 apart to give RIT a commanding 4-1 lead.
The fun continued for RIT when Brenner scored his second goal of the game midway through the third period and sent the RIT fans into a frenzy. UNH got a goal late from Blake Kessel but it was too little too late.
RIT outshot the Wildcats 33-26 and neither team scored on the power play in eight chances.
