Three more Brits for Romford

ROMFORD, UK – Romford Raiders have moved a step closer to completing their roster with the signing of three more Brits.

Netminder Michael Gray, defenceman Reece Covington and forward James Murnane have all signed on for the 10/11 season.

21 year-old Gray will compete with Glen Jackson for the starting spot in the Romford net this season. He started out at Chelmsford, and has a lot of experience for his age with Slough, Streatham, Invicta and Romford, at both ENL and EPL level.

A Romford spokesman said: “Michael attended pre season trials and coach Marshall had no hesitation in asking him to commit to the Raiders squad for the coming season, and Michael didn’t need to be asked twice. He is an accomplished netminder who is agile, alert, and reads not only the game but the puck movement well.”

Reece Covington also started out at Chelmsford, and has spent the last two seasons playing for the Chieftains. The 23 year-old is described as ‘a solid no nonsense stay-at-home defender who is not scared to take the body, and reads the game well.’ The young defenceman also adds an element of toughness and will stick up for his teammates.

The final signing, James Murnane, is a product of the Romford junior programme. The 19 year-old was outstanding at junior level, and despite spending some time out of the game he should be productive at ENL level.

The Raiders spokesman said: “After watching him improve with every training session coach Marshall added James to his forward line. James is a hard working, young, fit and fast forward who doesn’t mind digging for the puck in the corners.”

With these latest additions Romford’s roster is almost complete, but they still have to announce their two imports. The quality of these imports will be a big factor in the Raiders’ success this season.

Romford owner Ollie Oliver said: “Mick (Cahill) and I have been attending the training sessions and both of us are pleased with what we have seen. Danny has been biding his time as he knows the players he wants, and the role they have in the team, and the import signings should be sometime this week.”
