RAHWAY, NJ – Fantasy hockey fans normally are stoked for this week. The season would have started on Thursday as there were four games scheduled. For most this is that ten or eleven day Week 1 that drives most experts and beginners alike batty. For the sake of argument, this is what Thursday, October 11th would have looked like in the NHL . Thursday October 11th:
Road | Home | Time | |
1 | Ottawa | Montreal | 7pm ET |
2 | Boston | Philadelphia | 7pm ET |
3 | Vancouver | Calgary | 10pm ET |
4 | St. Louis | Colorado | 10pm ET |
Just keep in mind, 82 games were cancelled until October 24th. The expectation is that more games will go by the wayside in the next week or so. At the moment, it seems neither the NHL or NHLPA really wants to concentrate on the core issues. One side blames the other and in the end only the fans suffer, particularly the fantasy hockey brethren. Think about October 11th again just for a second. The games would be played and fantasy hockey owners would be tracking stats already. We would be already looking toward to who those breakout players would be while pondering potential busts. Roster tweaks would be next on the docket. There are so many things that go into a fantasy hockey team and league that no one really even bothers about. Without that NHL buzz, a funny thing has happened. Again, people are getting resourceful as hockey fans are known for. Let’s face it. The hockey fan is persecuted enough as it is and will try their hardest to do it their own way. Right on cue, there are fantasy hockey leagues in the Junior, European (KHL), and AHL ranks just for starters. If you go over to HFBoards , they have quite the catalog of simulation leagues to go along with the more traditional fantasy realm. There are not the only game in town because with Dobberhockey , you never have to go far for some fantasy hockey solace. We have promised updates on various fantasy leagues and how they transpire. Our very own Fantasy KHL will have a draft the weekend of October 26th with a start date of October 31st (yes that is Halloween). If you want to get in on the action, then send us an email. Personally, I wanted to thank The Hockey Writers for sponsoring such an endeavor but here is that link for regulations, rules, and that sort of thing. Demand is very high and it really is a first come, first serve basis. All that is left is to watch the games go by once the AHL gets underway on Friday and then wait for the NHL . Until then, hopefully here at Pro Hockey News , we can keep the hockey world riveted with our own little contributions. Stay strong my hockey friends!
