Texas Stars host “Pink in the Rink” October 22nd

CEDAR PARK , Texas – The Texas Stars, in conjunction with the Austin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® and the Cedar Park Regional Medical Center, announced on Thursday that “Pink in the Rink” will take place on Saturday, October 22^nd at the Cedar Park Center at 7:00 pm.
 
The event will be centered around the Texas Stars’ home game against the Peoria Rivermen. The Texas Stars will don pink themed jerseys to promote breast cancer awareness. Throughout the game, the team will run a silent auction of the game-worn jerseys, with 50 percent of the proceeds donated to the Komen Austin Affiliate. Also, $2.00 of every individual and group ticket sold for the game will be donated to the organization.
 
“We were very appreciative of the support we received last year from the Texas Stars community to make this event a big success,” said Texas Stars Assistant Vice President Danielle Eldridge.  “With the help of our great partners at Cedar Park Regional Medical Center we look forward to working with the Komen Austin Affiliate again to support such an important cause.”
 
Aside from the auction, Cedar Park Regional Medical Center, the presenting sponsor of “Pink in the Rink”, will distribute Texas Stars drawstring backpacks to the first 2,500 fans who attend the game.
 
“ Cedar Park Regional is proud to join the Texas Stars again this year to help promote breast cancer awareness. Unfortunately, we all know someone who has been personally impacted by this disease,” said Tim Adams, CEO of Cedar Park Regional Medical Center.  “We encourage women to take proper action to detect breast cancer early through monthly self-exams, annual exams by a physician, and annual mammograms for women over age 40.  Proper early detection and events such as this that raise awareness and funds for this important fight will get us one step closer to winning the battle against breast cancer.”
 
Last season, the Texas Stars presented its first Pink in the Rink during the October 30^th game against the Houston Aeros. The event raised over $25,000 for the Austin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the Texas Stars Foundation. The Stars wore pink themed jerseys that were auctioned off during the game. In conjunction with the jerseys, the players used pink taped sticks during warm-ups that were also auctioned off. The Texas Stars Foundation, with help from the Texas Stars players’ wives and girlfriends, helped sell autographed “Pink in the Rink” pucks. The Stars donated $2 of each individual or group ticket sold. In all, $10,616.50 of the net funds were donated to the Komen Austin Affiliate. The Texas Stars Ice Girls also participated in the Komen Austin Race for the Cure® last year, generating $942.85 in additional donations.
