PORATGE LA PRAIRE,
When the puck hit the ice Portage took position right away and Brent Wold got the puck up ice to Cody Kostecki who was able to relay it directly to the Tyler Moore who made the Steelers defence and goaltender Joey Rewucki look back when he wired the puck into the back of the net to sent the home team Terriers to a 1-0 lead just 18 seconds into the game. As both teams lined up at centre ice again the Portage Terriers took quick advantage and was able to get the puck from the Steelers and take complete control of the game by pulling the puck into the Steelers defence zone and Mike Gemmell found the very open Tanner Harms who again fooled the Steelers goalie and pounded into the net at just 45 seconds into the game. The Portage Terriers had complete control of the game and they had the Steelers chasing the puck the whole period and at 2:21 of the first period the Selkirk Steelers let their tempers get the best of them and they took a tripping penalty sending Steven Zacharias to the box giving the Terriers a power play. While on the power play the Terriers had control of the game until Stephane Pattyn was called for a high sticking penalty he was giving a two minute minor and a match penalty thus given him a four minute penalty at 2:26 of the first period.
With a four-on-four game the Steelers were unable to capitalize on the advantage. The first period ended with the Terriers up 2-0 on the Steelers and the Terriers leading in every way shape and form of the game including the shot clock with the Terriers again taking the advantage 13-9. With the Terriers ahead and the Steelers agitated, Joel Ridgeway was called on a boarding penalty at 44 seconds into the second period giving the Terriers yet another chance on the man advantage, luckily for the Steelers the penalty kill was on there A game and killed off the penalty with very little effort at all as the Terriers power play never really got anything going. The Terriers again got the puck moving and were able to get the Steelers stuck in their zone with a great cycle effort and Andrew Wiebe & Kajon McKay combined for assists and found Kyle Turgeon in front of the net to go up on the Steelers 3-0 in a very early stage of the game it would look as if the Terriers were running away with the game. At 9:03 the Terriers were called for tripping and Brendan Harms was sent to the sin bin putting the Steelers on the powerplay, the Steelers needed a powerplay to get themselves back into the game. Adam Stoykewych and Dylan Heide found Jory Geddes who finally got the Steelers on the board to end Kirk Coswells shut out in the game. At 17:36 of the second period Cody Kostecki was fed the puck and found the back of the net putting the final nail in the Steelers’ coffin putting the game out of reach for the Steelers,
But the Steelers being young and hungry were able to pull themselves into contention when they returned a goal from Travis Cech when he was fed by Adam Stoykewych and Steven Zacharias. The third period started and the Portage Terriers were twenty minutes away from the Turnbull Cup Championship. The puck dropped and both teams played very controlled until 2:46 of the third period Cody Kostecki was called for hooking. The Steelers Joel Ridgeway was called at 6:30 of the third period for slashing and that put the Terriers on to the power play and just 21 seconds into the power play Tanner Harms found Shaquille Merasty found the back of the net and put the Terriers up 5-2. The Steelers played the rest of the game mostly short handed as they took five more penalties, and as the clock wound down the Portage Credit Union Centre got louder and louder and as the clock hit zero, the Portage Terriers were Turnbull Cup Champions Congratulations Portage Terriers.
